Prince Tyrion

Tyrion is one of the greatest warriors and generals of the High Elves.[2b][5b]

He is known to various races by names, titles and curses - to the Dark Elves he is the Reaper, to the Goblins of Red-Axe Pass he is Orcbane and to the Norse, Mankiller.[2b]

Overview

Prince Tyrion is, according to the majority of the High Elves, the greatest living warrior and general in Ulthuan, and possibly even the world. Tyrion and his twin Teclis played pivotal parts in the Great Chaos Incursion especially at the Battle of Finuval Plain. He is the champion and consort of the current Everqueen and the defender of Ulthuan.[4a][5b][7]

Although Tyrion is gifted warrior, he is not a diplomat or a politician. Yet no-one can challenge such highborn hero that has accomplished so much. Some even have whispered that he might one day become a Phoenix King.[5b]

History

Ancestry

Prince Tyrion is the son of Arathion and Alysia Emeraldsea and the twin brother of Teclis. His twin is the total opposite of Tyrion: where Tyrion is strong, tall, brave and handsome, Teclis is weak, diminutive, mockingly sarcastic and gaunt. But Teclis is one of the mightiest mages of the Warhammer world. [1][5b][9]

Through his father, Tyrion is a descendant of Morelion, the first-bon son of Aenarion the Defender, the first Phoenix King and Astarielle, a past Everqueen.[4a][5b] Thereby he is a very distant relative of both Witch King Malekith (Aenarion's second son by Morathi) and to Alarielle, the current Everqueen (who is a descendant of Aenarion's daughter Yvraine, Morelion's twin).

Unlike his brother, Tyrion is affected less strongly by the ancient curse of Aenarion. Yet Tyrion has had black moods and shortness of temper which might point to the offset of darker effects of the curse.[2b][5b]

Since the Great Chaos Incursion, it has been common knowledge that Tyrion is the lover and consort of Allarielle the Radiant. [5b]

Pre-Great Chaos Incursion

In 2273 IC N'Kari, a Keeper of Secrets, invaded Ulthuan. It is speculated by many that he was attempting to destroy the lineage of Aenarion. N'Kari was eventually brought to justice at the Shrine of Asuryan, where the Daemon forced his way inside but was defeated by young twins, Tyrion and Teclis, and the holy Fire of Asuryan. Their rise to fame began.[4b][7]

The Great Chaos Incursion

In the 138th year of Finubar the Seafarer's reign (2301 IC), the Dark Elves, accompanied by some Chaos allies, once again invaded Northern Ulthuan, intent on the utter conquest of their ancestral lands and the destruction of their High Elf cousins. The High Elves were largely unprepared, and the Dark Elves quickly burned and pillaged their way to the Everqueen's court in Avelorn. As the unending hordes closed in, Tyrion tore the Everqueen from her silk pavilion, and killed any dark elves who stood in his way, however, he was wounded by the poisoned blade of a Witch Elf as he cut a bloody exit route through the besieging force. They eventually managed to escape into the forests of Avelorn.[3b][4a]

As the word that the Everqueen, and Tyrion, were missing and probably dead, reached the rest of Ulthuan, Teclis suspected the contrary, believing both were still alive. So he departed from the white tower with a sword he had himself forged. Meanwhile, Tyrion was succumbing to the venom of the witch elf, and the Witch King's servants were closing in. For the killing blow, the mighty Keeper of Secrets N'Kari was dispatched to slay the pair. Tyrion valiantly stood before it, protecting his queen, but he was no match for the daemon in his highly weakened state and was simply cast aside. As the Daemon of Slaanesh loomed over the Everqueen, a mighty blast ripped through the air and, with a thunderous roar, the Keeper of Secrets was banished to the warped hell from whence it came. As Teclis inspected his victory over the creature of Chaos, he rushed to his brother's aid, and with a few hushed whispers, he brought him back from the brink of death.[3b]

Battle of Finuval Plain

After he had been healed, Tyrion and the Everqueen was guided to the Inner Sea and were picked up by a ship manned by the remnants of the Maiden Guard who took them to the Plain of Finuval where the High Elf forces were gathering to make a last stand against the Dark Elves and forces of Chaos. Tyrions father gifted him with the ancient armor of his ancestor Aenarion, whilst the people of Ellyrion gave him Malhandir in gratitude for the rescue of Alarielle. In turn the Everqueen gave him the Heart of Avelorn.[3b]

Once the two armies had massed opposite each other, the champion of Malekith, Urian Poisonblade challenged anyone to face him. He cut down Arhalien of Yvresse with ease, and after a short duel beheaded the captain of the White Lions, Korhien Ironglaive but now Tyrion now rode out to face him. The subsequent conflict lasted over an hour but resulted in the defeat of the Dark Elf. The two armies then charged each other.[3b][4a]

As Malekith fought his own magical duel with Teclis, Tyrion cut down his standard bearer, breaking the enemy army who fled the field. Tyrion led the army on to relieve Lothern and then the Tower of Hoeth, following the enemy into Chrace, meeting the Phoenix King at Tor Achare, its capital in 2303 IC.[3b]

Post-Great Chaos Incursion

Some High Elven bards sing that Tyrion is Aenarion reborn. Since his meteoric rise to fame during the Great Chaos Incursion, many have spoken in hushed tones of his destiny to lead the High Elves towards a new and glorious future, and perhaps one day to take the Phoenix Crown. If Tyrion hears such gossip, he pays it no heed, for his only concern is the safety and protection of Ulthuan and the Everqueen. He is unswervingly loyal to the current Phoenix King, Finubar the Seafarer.[4a]

In the years since the Great Incursion, Tyrion has busied himself strengthening Ulthuan's armies and all know that whenever danger comes to the High Elves' island home, the enemy will be met by Tyrion. He is the protector of the Everqueen and the defender of all Ulthuan.[4a]

2326 IC saw the death of his father, and a brief but joyous reunion with his brother.[3b]

He defeated the invading fleet of Erik Redaxe in 2502 IC and twice led assaults on the Blighted Isle to drive the Druchii from it.[3b]

End Times

Tyrion as Regent in the End Times

At the beginning of the End Times, Tyrion and his brother returned empty-handed from their quest to find Aliathra, first born daughter of Alarielle to find Ulthuan once more invaded by Daemons. Finubar had locked himself within the Heavenlight Tower and his court was becoming more and more frustrated at his lack of action. Prince Imrik even going so far as to say that the Phoenix King had ceded his right to the crown by not helping to defend the realm. [6a]

Teclis asked him to command the armies of Ulthuan to defend their homeland, but Tyrion was focused on a new expedition to save Aliathra. Despite this, he traveled to the Shrine of Asuryan once more to consult the god, this time with Eltharion and Princess Eldyra of Tiranoc, both of whom knew that Aliathra was actually Tyrion's daughter.[6a]

Arriving at the shrine, 10,000 Phoenix Guard bent their knees and lowered their blades as a sign of their fealty. Eltharion convinced him that this was a sign that he should lead the defense whilst Eldyra led the rescue attempt to which Tyrion finally agreed. He traveled to the Phoenix Council and demanded that all present marshal their forces under his command as the herald of Asuryan. In response, Imrik was outraged, declared that Caledor would stand alone and stormed out but the other lords pledged themselves to Tyrion.[6a]

Tyrion and the Phoenix Guard led a mighty host, destroying the daemons first in Eataine and Saphery before moving into Yvresse and Avelorn to aid those blighted lands.[6a] This quest to destroy the Daemon invaders became known as the Wars of Reclamation and once more Tyrion was matched against N'Kari but although wounded he defeated the Greater Daemon at the Siege of the White Tower.[8a]

After his victory, Tyrion sought to reconcile with Imrik, but he was spurned - enraging him and stating that he was banished from the court until he begged for forgiveness. His anger caused much of the warriors of Caledor that had followed him to return home but his anger seemed to heal the prince and so like a cleansing flame he moved north into Yvresse followed by Avelorn. His campaign was aided by ghosts of the ancient dead and as he received no word of his daughter or former consort, so his anger was turned on the Daemons - seemingly none could stand before him.[8a]

When his scouts brought word that N'Kari, his favoured prey had taken over the great temple of Lileath, Moonspire he immediately marched to face the Daemon, resulting in the Battle of Moonspire.[8a] Despite his victory, terrible news soon arrived - Eagle Gate had fallen but even worse was that it had been the Dragons of Caledor that had achieved that defeat, joining with the Druchii.[8b]

Once again enraged, Tyrion went to the tower of the Phoenix King and although at first Captain Korhil Lionmane blocked his path, he backed down and even cut down the ensorcelled starwood door with Chayal, although it took nearly a day to break through. Inside they found the magically preserved but brutally mutilated corpse of Finubar. In the aftermath, Tyrion was unanimously elected as the Regent of Ulthuan.[8b]

Regent of Ulthuan

In his new role, he dispatched armies under High Handmaiden Ystranna of Avelorn and Captain Caradryan of the Flame to confront the Dark Elves as his court would not allow him to immediately risk himself. Those Caledorian princes still in reach he had imprisoned in Lothern.[8b] Discovering that Malekith was moving to claim Widowmaker, the Sword of Khaine, Tyrion disregarded the objections of his court and embarked with an army aboard a High Elf Fleet commanded by the Sea Lord Aislinn, sailing across the Sea of Dreams.[8c]

Discovering that Elrost Bay had been captured by the Dark Elves, Tyrion ordered an immediate assault. The emplaced batteries took a toll on the Asur attackers until Sea Lord Aislinn summoned Merwyrms who breached the walls. Those Druchii that surrendered were flung from the walls, the fortunate one dying whereas the wounded survivors were devoured by the Merwyrms. Tyrion marched his host into Ellyrion, past the remains of Tor Emyrath where the Ellyrions in the army were refused permission to bury the dead as it would take too long.[8c]

Several leagues north east of the city ruins, Tyrion accompanied the vengeful Reaver Knights to wipe out Druchii foraging parties. His army marched over the Pyradon Hills and down onto the Reaver’s Mark where they discovered another High Elf army under Caradryan struggling to survive against a much larger dark elf army. Tyrion charged forward into the Battle of Reaver’s Mark.[8c]

Although wounded in the battle, Tyrion defeated Malus Darkblade and when he transformed into the Daemon Tz'arkan, Tyrion plunged Sunfang and the newly claimed Warpsword of Khaine into its body to kill it. However across the world at the Battle at Nine Daemons, Nagash was being reborn by sacrifice including that of Tyrion's daughter and when he arose, the Great Necromancer claimed the Death magic at the heart of the Great Vortex. The dead began to rise and attack the living but Tyrion proclaimed that they must follow him and together with his own, increasingly blood thirsty warriors, they fell upon the Druchii.[8d]

Tyrion encamped his forces on the edge of Reaver's Mark, despite his own wish to continue the campaign immediately and retired to his own pavilion. When an archer woman slipped into his tent, Tyrion threatened to take their head if they did not remove their glamour - she did and he was confronted by Morathi herself.[8e]

In the afternoon, as the rain faded, Tyrion emerged from his pavilion, accompanied by a handmaiden he named Riselle and demanded that the mages accompanying summon Teclis to be brought before him at the ruined circle of Haladra. When his brother arrived, Tyrion stated that he was a traitor who had consorted with Malekith to bring about the death of Finubar and who was responsible for the death of Aliathra as well. He begged Teclis to explain his actions as Riselle watched in rapture.[8e]

Teclis did not deny the accusations, only confirmed them and his brother smashed him to the ground, breaking a number of his teeth. He spat blood and told him I am sorry. It was necessary before fleeing the circle with a muttered spell. Tyrion cried out his rage to the uncaring sky.[8e]

Sword of Khaine

Tyrion marched his army to confront that of Malekith who was seeking the Widowmaker on the Blighted Isle but by the time he reached the shrine, the battle was all but over. When Korhil proclaimed that they were too late, Riselle dismounted from Malhandir in a flurry of armoured skirts and demanded to know - Does Ulthuan know valour only in victory?, she continued when Tyrion demanded to know what they could do. Malhandir can carry you to the shrine in moments. It does not take an army to raise a sword, just a strong arm and a ready will. It is time to claim your destiny, my beloved.[8f]

Korhil confirmed he would follow with the army and so Tyrion rode forth, Caradryan atop Ashtari not far behind - when he reached the shrine, Malekith had just managed to fight off an assault by Shadowblade who had been under the control of Morathi.[8f]

Tyrion faces Malekith at the Shrine of Khaine

Tyrion's first strike was at Seraphon, the already wounded dragon that Malekith rode, Sunfang cutting a glowing line across her throat. As her black blood gushed out, the dragon sought to protect her rider using her one good wing to try and smash Tyrion from Malhandir’s back, but the horse darted aside. Although most of the blow was avoided, the regents helm was knocked from his head. With Malhandir moving to regain his footing, Seraphon stooped low to assist in making the enemy an easy target for the Destroyer, Malekith’s sword.[8f]

Sunfang parried the blow and Tyrion struck back immediately with a riposte that tore through the breastplate of the Witch King’s armour. As her blood gushed free, Seraphon attempted to move her master away from the danger with Malekith realising he was no match in single combat against the Dragon of Cothique but he could use his magic to level the field. The Witch King blasted both horse and rider with dark magic, but again Sunfang was used to counter the attack, this time with its own flames. [8f]

As the two heirs of Aenarion fought for dominance, this time with magic, the air writhed and the rain hissed but soon thegolden fires of Sunfang faded and the dark fire swept over Tyrion. Malhandir screamed in pain and although most of Tyrion was protected by his peerless dragon armour, his exposed head suffered greatly as his hair caught fire and his skin bubbled and cracked. Yet Tyrion was not to be denied, ignoring the searing pain and urging his own wounded mount forward and across the alter, using his glowing blade to sweep Malektih from the back of Seraphon. As Tyrion advanced for a final blow, both mounts collapsed.[8f]

Malekith tried to face him but his left arm was lifeless and he was drenched in his own blood with his initial parry against Sunfang seeing his own sword shatter. Pain coursed through him, rendering him unable to call upon his sorcery and a second blow against his gorget slammed his against the Alter and to his knees. A swift kick to the jaw rendered him unconscious and Tyrion reached for the Widowmaker.[8f]

As he did so, Teclis arrived on a shadow steed and demanded that his brother stop, stating that not only did Malekith need to live if the elves were to survive, but that Morathi was manipulating him. Tyrion replied - Is she now? Then how very different in your dealings you are. It matters not. Today our ancient enemy dies, and a new sun rises. He prepared to strike with the Widowmaker but Telcis bound him with his magic as he sought to aid the Witch King - however Tyrion almost immediately broke out of the confining energy bands. A second spell was absorbed by the Sword of Khaine and Tyrion punched his brother sending him sprawling and moved to finish Malekith off.[8f]

Before he could do so, Caradryan landed and stood between him and the unconscious Witch King and when told to move, he spoke for the first time in decades saying No. When he would not move, Tyrion struck out with the Widowmaker and Caradyran only survived because Teclis used his link to Lileath to deflect an arrow from the Moonbow to strike Tyrion, flinging him back down the hillside.[8f]

His unconscious body was recovered by Morathi, who ordered him carried from the field and her command was carried out by elves of both Ulthuan and Naggaroth as almost all still remaining on the field had been ensnared by her will. Malhandir was also near to death but Korhil made sure that the horse was treated with no less honour than his master. Over the course of the night, an increasingly desperate Morathi used every talent at her disposal to save him, even merging their life energies so that he burden of his wounds were spread across the two of them.[8g]

Tyrion, Avatar of Khaine

When Tyrion awoke, the Sorceress had collapsed into an exhausted slumber and by the time she awoke and joined him, he had gathered all the elves to hear him speak. He told them that I bear Aenarion’s armour. I carry his sword. His blood runs through my veins. You owe me your allegiance! and they cheered him on. Only Alith Anar, watching from the shadows did not join in and instead slipped away.[8g]
